OCT Scan

An OCT (optical coherence tomography scan) is like an ultrasound but it uses light waves to take multiple scans of the back of the eye. This provides us with a cross-section or 3D view of the retina and helps us to view the health of your eyes in greater detail, by allowing us to see what’s going on beneath the surface of the eye.

OCT scanning is great at confirming that your eyes are healthy and can be repeated over time for comparison. This makes it particularly useful for detecting potentially sight-threatening conditions that generally don’t have any symptoms until they start to have an impact on your vision.

We recommend an OCT at each visit so that a digital image of the back of your eye can be taken and recorded – the scan is non-invasive, quick and doesn’t hurt.
